Nearest ATM of SBI is White label ATM owned by an Entrepreneur

by Paul Joseph November 6, 2010 Featured

Who owns the Mobile Towers in India? Few Years back the towers were owned by the respective mobile Operator. Bharti Airtel owned their mobile tower, Reliance Communication owned their tower and BSNL theirs. Now, there is a consolidation of mobile tower business. The towers are owned by companies like Quippo Telecom and rented to any mobile operator who needs the same. Who owns the ATMs in India? Currently, the ATMs are owned by the respective banks. SBI ATMs are owned by them, ICICI owns their ATMs and so on. But, this is going to change pretty soon. An Indian Entrepreneur has bought an ATM and if things go well the Nearest ATM of SBI may be owned by this Entrpreneur. Check out http://bit.ly/a76vjR You might have missed the first mover advantage in getting into Mobile Phone towers, but do not miss this opportunity. May Lakshmi bring lot of wealth to you by next Dhanteras…

Indian Images

by Paul Joseph October 15, 2010 Featured

Take a notepad. Note down top 10 Indian corporate websites and check out their home page. In case the websites had pictures of people, were the pictures those of Indians? I am sure, it is not Indians in majority of the cases. And the companies may also get away telling that they are MNCs and cannot have pictures of people only from India. Again note down 10 small to medium companies, or companies with operations only in India. The result will be more glaring. Most of the small companies will be using pictures of foreigners. Why do companies in India not use photos of Indians on the websites? Are Indians Ugly and not fit being shown on the websites? But, when we can have Indians in movies, commercials…….can’t we have Indians on websites? Actually, if you search for high resolution images of Indians that can be bought, you will find that there are hardly there are any companies that have these images. In case they have images, it is in most of the cases not affordable. This is a great opportunity for all your entrepreneurs, to start a website that sells Indian images. There is a huge potential. Action, Camera, Shoot……sell

Web 2.0 DeAddiction Centre

by Paul Joseph August 24, 2009 Featured

What is Web 2.0? A term describing the supposed second generation of web applications that encompass ‘community’ sites. Examples include wikis, social networking sites, blogs etc Is Web 2.0 successful? If I go by the definition of Web 2.0, I think Web 2.0 gets perfect 10 for achieving the intended purpose. There is huge amount of collaboration, networking, blogging….happening all around But, it has also come with a huge cost. Probably 95% of the people use it for intended reasons. But around 5% of the people are turning into addicts. Following are some of my reasons for the same: Those addicted do not bother saying “Good Morning” to people near them. But, start the day saying “Good Morning” in Micro Blog When I start the day, I see some people active for the past few hours. Even when I am about to hit the bed, I see these same folks still on the Micro Blog. They post information on all topics, answer every other question, post comments from the road/home/office. What is their goal in life? Become a Handyman? I see few folks saying “Going to the loo”, “I hurt my….”, “Take a shave”, “Take a bath”. If a prospective employer checks the background, will he offer such people a job? Do these posts exhibit maturity or expertise? There are some self-proclaimed executives all the time on MicroBlog when they should be running the business. I can understand the Marketing and Sales team trying to get leads/sales. But, not the ones who should be running the business. My advice to users will be to identify the important and urgent things first. If you have a job and there are important/urgent things to do, better take care of them first. If you have family or friends, they are more important than 10000 friends on the Web 2.0. If your plan is to start a company, target all your energy in identifying your audience and post your ideas to attract the prospective stakeholders. Add value to what others say. Forwarding others message continuously doesn’t add value. If you are a student, better concentrate on your studies first. Web Design and Search Engine Optimization will not be lucrative for majority of them. I can keep going on and on. But, I hope atleast I change one addict with this post. For all others, I hope an entrepreneur starts a Web 2.0 DeAddiction centre. Pretty soon there are going to be lot of people needing this service. I will not be surprised if one day a person micro blogs asking for help, instead of asking the person next to him/her. I will also not be surprised, if someone blogs his experience of an accident/heart attack instead of trying to get to a hospital. If you have noticed people turning addicted to Web 2.0, please post your comments and forward this link to them. Extrnal links related to this post: http://epaper.timesofindia.com/Repository/ml.asp?Ref=VE9JQkcvMjAwOS8wNC8xMyNBcjAxMTAz Looks like Web 2.0 DeAddiction centre is becoming a reality: http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/detox-centres-cometo-cure-internet-addiction/367837/

Why does India perform poorly in Olympic Games?

by Paul Joseph June 8, 2009 Featured

India has been performing consistently in Oympic Games – Consistently poor. Other than some individual medals due to capability of the individual more than the state/country, India’s performance has been pathetic. The reasons are not hard to find. One of the major problem is good sports infrastructure. How many of you have access to a sports ground? How many of those sports ground are maintained properly? Is the sports ground big enough for all the people who come to play? Other than few lucky people, many will surely agree there is no safe play ground nearby. But, there is a big need from parents for their children to play in a friendly environment. To fulfill this demand, you can open an indoor sports arena. It is like a big Warehouse that is split into multiple areas using nets. Each of this area can be used for a sport like Cricket, Football…. There is already one entrepreneur who has made a move. See http://www.xlr8.me/. But, I am sure there is place for many such people.

We need YLH and Not YLG

by Paul Joseph March 30, 2009 Featured

I read the news of Helion Funds investing in YLG (You Look Great? See http://ylgindia.com/ ). I was surprised that the fund has invested in this venture. OK, let me give my thoughts. There are two kinds of players in the market. One is the mom and pop shop and other is the organised player. Here is the dramatized account of the experience in these two places: Mom and Pop shop : When you walk in the shop after 10 years, you see the same set of people working you had seen earlier The furniture is also not replaced for the last 10 years (One option is to find a new Mom and Pop shop every year) If you start talking in friendly terms, they will soon lead you to the difficulties they are facing and if we can help with money If you keep a distance, they will soon start chatting among themselves with the juiciest gossip If they are not gossipping, they are watching TV. You may ask what is the problem in that. Sometimes, I am taking a shave and they are watching Shakira. With knife near my throat and the barber watching Shakira, what do you expect me to do? It is another story that no one has ever got killed before, but I do not want to hit the Head(less)line Organised Player You enter a organised salon, there is a guard to help you park the vehicle (Salon is going to charge 10% more for this service) There is a person to open the door (Add 10% service charge) There is a smiling lady in the reception (Add 30% more service charge) I have already paid 50% more for the above facilities. And then when I tell her I just need a “summer cut”, you know she is not pleased to see me. But, she will smilingly tell the cost is thrice the Mom and Shop Since I have outgrown the Mom and Shop, I sheepingly head inside for a Summer Cut Here, the staff gives 100% of concentration on the customer First they show an album with all the styles that will suit me. I say “Summer Cut” Then they ask, if I need a shampoo. I say “Just Summer Cut” They suddenly notice my scalp is dry and If I need a XYZ treatment. I say “Just Summer Cut” They ask, if I need a facial. I say “Just Summer Cut” They keeping going down by body and mentioning various service, for which the cost will surely be increasing. I keep saying “Just Summer Cut” When I walk out, I am sure they will be gossipping about me at their back, even after I have paid 5 times what I pay at the Mom and Pop shop When I walk a month later to the same shop, I will try to spot the same hair expert, so that I do not have to repeat “Just Summer Cut” 100 times. But, it is the same story, a new salon has come in the neighbourhood and our pal has left this place What we really need is a Walmart among Salons? I walk into a clean, professional salon. They ask me “Short/Medium/Long”. I answer “Short”. They cut my hair in 10 minutes and move onto the next customer. There are too many exotic shops, go after the volume business. BTW, did somebody not tell them we are in recession… If you are the entrepreneur who is going to build on this idea, and create one of the quick professional hair cutting salon, call it YLH (You Look Happy). If Helion changes their mind after reading this, I will set it up for them

Babita Taxi Service

by Paul Joseph March 24, 2009 Featured

Any girl/woman in India who has travelled by Auto does so with a prayer in the lips. Majority of Auto drivers do not want to go to the place where you have to go. If they agree, they focus the rear view mirrors to watch you, instead of the road. They drive like crazy. If you are pregnant, god bless your unborn child. If you are drunk in the night, I am sure you cannot depend on an auto. Women will probably prefer a driver who is a lady. Unfortunately Auto isn’t suitable for Women to drive. Taxi cabs are expensive. Now, with Nano hitting the road, any entreprenuer can fill this gap. They can buy Nano cars, identify women in distress through NGOs, train them as drivers and create a Call Taxi just for women. I am sure lot of women and parents of girl children like me will welcome such service. You can call the service as Babita Taxi Service. Babita isn’t my girl friend. It means, girl in Spanish and many other languages.

Mr. Bulb is terminally ill….LED is the heir apparent

by Paul Joseph March 9, 2009 Featured

The Bulb which was invented more than 100 years heat a filament to produce light. But, 90% of the heat is wasted as heat. Heat causes climate change and CFLs looked like good replacement, since CFLs do not generate. But, CFLs contain mercury within them which is dangerous to living beings especially children. The safest replacement for bulbs and CFLs are LEDs. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED_lamp for more info. In India, there are 100 Crore people. Assuming every person will buy a bulb next year, the requirement is for 100 crore bulbs. If LED lights can be manufactured at competitive price, there is a big market to capture. The companies that already manufacture will try to defer moving into LED market since they will lose their current assets. It is time for entrepreneurs to go and capture the wide market. Already some small entrepreneurs have made the move. See http://tinyurl.com/bum6ja , http://www.ledindia.com/main.html . If capital cost is high, start by importing from China.

Wanna Dine like Genghis Khan?

by Paul Joseph May 24, 2008 Featured

In India, there is a new dining experience created every day. And all these restaurants are having capacity crowd. Be it restaurant with Aquariums, designed like Train, Airplane, Jungle,…..But, the food is ready made with no provision to make it to our preference, other than adding salt/pepper or making special request. How about a restaurant where you can pick and chose the ingredients, but you do not have to cook? That is exactly the way Mongolian BBQ works. In Mongolian BBQ, you grab a bowl, select your meat and/or vegetables, add the spices, proceed to the grill. You inform the Chef at the Grill the sauce(s) to use and whether you will like Rice or Noodles. The Chef then Stir Fries your ingredients and serves it hot. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_barbecue for more information I am not sure whether Genghis Khan tried this, but I am sure Indians will love it
